Kingsman: The Golden Circle is the direct sequel to Kingsman: The Secret Service, which was one of the biggest, surprise hits of 2015. When their headquarters are destroyed and the world is held hostage by an unheard-of drug queen, Eggsy and the Kingsman team up with a new secret, American-spy organization called the Statesman to save the world.
I was very surprised by this movie. From the very first opening scene to the credits, I had an absolute blast. Contrary to what everyone else thinks, I had more fun with this movie than I did with the first one. Do I think it’s a better movie than the first Kingsman? No. But for me personally, I enjoyed it a lot more and I had a lot more fun with it. No one seems to have that many good things to say about this movie, and since I loved it so much, I knew I had to talk about it. This movie deserves a lot more praise than it’s getting. So you know what? I’ll be the one to give it that praise.
This movie is insane. More insane than the first Kingsman if you can believe that. It amplifies everything to the max. And it takes everything a step further. For the most part, it worked for me. It has so many crazy elements jam packed into the runtime from the stunts the characters manage to pull off to their gadgets and abilities. But I thought these elements worked in the Kingsman universe that Director and Writer Matthew Vaughn set up in the first movie and continue to develop in this one.
I love how they just went for it. The movie is an adrenaline filled thrill ride from start to finish. You can tell Matthew Vaughn and everyone else involved had a blast making it. The movie has this awesome, contagious energy that kept me engaged and excited the whole way through. Matthew Vaughn doesn’t hold back from anything. If he had an idea for something, he found a way to throw it into the story. Every scene is filled with so much creativity and inspiration. And no matter how crazy things get, they worked in this already crazy universe.
Just like in the last movie, this one also continues to parody classic spy movies while managing to be a fun, stand alone spy movie on its own. It also cleverly plays homage to the first Kingsman, sometimes making a joke out of it, which was extremely effective and funny.
By far, the best part about this movie were the action scenes. As I said before, the movie starts out like an action movie should. It starts with an amazing, intense, and fast-paced action scene that we saw from the trailers where Eggsy is fighting a familiar foe with a robotic arm in a decked out taxi cab. It’s thrilling, awesome, and exciting. And it sets us up for the insanity and momentum of the rest of the movie.
Matthew Vaughn directs action in such a fresh and original way with his own unique and incredible style. This is clearly a Matthew Vaughn movie and I mean that in the best possible way. No one would be able to handle this movie or direct action as effectively as he does. You know that awesome church scene from the first Kingsman where Colin Firth fights his way through an onslaught of enemies in one unbroken take? Kingsman: The Golden Circle contains even more action scenes just like this one that use CGI and camera magic to make it look like everything is happening all in one shot. And they're a ton of fun.
Despite how much I loved the movie, it isn’t without its fair share of problems. With a movie that's this over the top and insane, there are bound to be a scene or two that overstep the boundaries and a few plot holes here and there. And there definitely are. But I forgave almost all the problems I had because I was having way too much fun to pay attention to them.
Overall, I was surprised with how much I enjoyed this movie and how much fun I had watching it. I cant wait to see what they do with Kingsman 3.
